About Me & FAQs

Why did I start this book blog?
I love books, and I enjoy sharing my thoughts with other readers.

What do I bring to the bookish community?
I have a genuine passion for literature, and I think it is increasingly important for readers like me to put themselves out there. Influencers have a place and purpose, but casual readers are a different breed, and our voices have unique merit.

Do I have any educational background in literature or literary criticism?
No. I’ve managed two book blogs prior to Marks In The Margins, I’ve reviewed for a number of blog tours, and I’ve reviewed for the Historical Novel Society, but I have no professional or academic training in literature or publishing.

Why do I love reading?
Reading is relaxing. I also find it intellectually and emotionally stimulating.

What book or series got me into reading?
I’ve always been a reader. I cut my teeth on classics and high fantasy, but Elizabeth Chadwick’s The Champion stands as a cornerstone in the development of my personal taste.

What kind of books do I like to read?
I will read just about anything, but I naturally gravitate towards historical fiction, literary fiction, and history. That said, I tend to sidestep children’s lit, middle grade, young adult, poetry, and erotica. I make no judgments against those who enjoy these genres, but they just don’t hold my attention very well.

What does my book collection look like?
I have been collecting for more than twenty years. A full catalog of my collection can be found on LibraryThing.

Do I have a preferred book format?
No. I own and enjoy print media, digital, and audiobooks.

Do I read indie or trad titles?
Both. I’ve no bias when it comes to how a book found its way to market.

Where do I get books?
At this point, most of my purchases are used physical media or library loans. I used to buy a lot of ebooks, but I’ve cut back significantly over the last few years.

Why don’t my blog posts have ratings?
I’d prefer to share my thoughts, and I feel that is best accomplished when my reviews lack a rating. Simply put, anyone who finds this blog has to read the text to understand my opinions. If you are the kind of reader who needs these distinctions, I log ratings on Goodreads and LibraryThing.

Will I read/review your book?
I'm flattered by the question, but I am not currently accepting review requests. I'm currently reading my way around the world and the nature of that project requires my dedication and focus.

Will I host an author interview with you?
Please feel free to reach out if you are promoting historical or literary fiction. I do not interview other genres.

Where can I be reached?
You can message me on Goodreads, LibraryThing, Facebook, or Instagram
